BHFI Pre-planning and Team building 2022

The junior members of Beta Epsilon Sigma-Hiyas Ng Silangan Foundation, Inc (BHFI or the Foundation) showcased their commitment to the Foundation with the presentation of their objectives and plans for their respective committees during the Pre-Planning and Team Building held last July 30 to 31, 2022 at Tampay sa Sinagtala, Orani Bataan.

During the two-day program, the young members of the Foundation has finally embarked on the transition from being honor society leaders to becoming full-fledged Foundation committee heads.

To blow away the cobwebs, the organizers had listed the help of Ms. Odette or fondly called Tita O, to facilitate a teambuilding activity. The participants were divided into two teams – the Kawayan team and the Stone team. Kawayan or Bamboo is a symbol of longevity because of its durability, strength, flexibility, and resilience. It is also often associated with continuous growth, and the commitment to learning and developing. Its ability to cope with adversity, still stand firmly without losing its original ground, and rapid growth is something that the Kawayan team aspires for the Foundation. Stone, on the other hand, symbolizes wisdom, strength, stability, patience, and time. As pointed out by the Stone team, it is with stones that we can create a firm and strong foundation.

After some brief yet fun and lively introductions, the members then shared what they feel at that moment and what they expect to accomplish after the two-day program.

The teambuilding was in full swing when Tita O gathered the teams and initiated an activity which allowed the members from the three campuses to loosen up. The activity erased the metaphorical border among the members and helped them gain momentum in clearing the challenges presented before them with some guidance from our Seniors. Tita O wrapped up the teambuilding by sharing that sometimes, slowly but surely is not an option. These days, both life and business demand that solutions must be fast, cheap, efficient, and again, fast. She also shared that teamwork means moving together towards a common goal, and whenever a problem arises, gather around, communicate, and solve it together. Because 1 +1 is not 2, but is 11.

Fun, motivational, and inspiring, these activities surely brought everyone closer. And together, they were all ready to plan and contribute toward achieving the foundation’s mission and vision. A refreshment and nap later, it was time for the main agenda of the day: discussion of the foundation’s mission, vision, and purpose, and for the committees to present their goals and plans for the year. From the Communications Committee down to the Legal Committee, all 15 teams presented their objectives and their concrete plans to achieve them. Senior members and committee chairs such as Sis Tess, Sis Evie, and Sis ELV, were also there to answer the questions of the young members. As the program progressed, the picture each team is trying to paint became clearer. With Brod Felhner Faelnar’s closing remarks and key takeaways, the first day of Pre-Planning formally ended.

After the formal discussion was finished and dinner was served, a more raw exchange from the Junior members commenced. Dressed in their PJs, our Junior Brods and Sis began to talk through the earlier pre-planning as well as the day’s presentation. Sharing their thoughts, the young members posed their questions to one another and their ideas on how to better execute their responsibilities.

Even with the second day’s gloomy weather, everyone started bright and early with a hearty breakfast. With the arrival of the Foundation’s President Brod Bert Tagayuna and Brod Ed Reyes, a short presentation of what was reported the day prior was done. A number of the junior members also shared their takeaways on the two-day trip.

Of course, any BHFI event will not be complete without some gold old ‘Zumba’ to stretch the limbs that probably had frozen a bit due to the cold weather. With Sis Tess Andres leading the dance in full energy, everyone had no choice but to give it their best! Albeit a bit chaotic at first, everyone happily, some goofily danced to the tune and completed that 5,500 steps!

As to reiterate the lyrics of Starship: And we can build this dream together, Standing strong forever, Nothing’s gonna stop us now. Challenges will always be there, and mistakes are bound to happen. There’s no use blaming each other. What needs to be done now is, to immediately identify the problem then from there we need to brainstorm solutions. However not just any solutions, as the words of Tita O: ‘Solutions that are, fast, cheap and efficient.’
